Strawberries and Cream with Rum is the perfect Cinco de Mayo dessert! This treat always reminds me of my family’s favorite dessert we had during our road trip to Miami Beach. On our trip, we ate at a Mexican restaurant that, aside from the amazing food, had a delicious strawberries and cream dessert. This dish is a sweet childhood memory for me. Every time I make it, I am reminded of the fun trip we had. I love it when food (besides being delicious) brings up happy memories.

This Strawberries and Cream recipe is so versatile, so you can swap ingredients based on what you already have at home. No need for a grocery store run! For the tastiest results, our ingredients are:

  • Heavy Cream
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Creme Fraiche
  • Rum Extract

You can substitute:

  • Swap Creme Fraiche with Mascarpone
  • Swap Heavy Cream with Condensed Milk. This will make it creamier and less fluffy than whipped cream.

I love this recipe because it is only a few quick steps. You will have a yummy dessert in no time. To get started, the heavy cream into a mixer bowl and mix on medium to high speed. Stop mixing when the liquid becomes a little thick, which should only take a few minutes.

Afterwards, once the heavy cream has thickened, add the rest of the ingredients to the mix. Mix until there are stiff peaks. Now, you are at the beginning of the end! Place your mixture into a pipping bag. Cut up your strawberries and begin to assemble your strawberry and cream display! It really is that simple.

Tips for The Best Cream:

My favorite part of this treat is the cream, so you want to make sure it is perfect! To make sure your heavy cream mixes well with the mascarpone or creme fraiche, chill your heavy cream. Using the fridge is perfect.

Personally, I love pipping the cream on top of the strawberries, rather than scooping it. It makes the dish look beautiful. Also, I like it put the finished product in a clear bowl. The end result is so pretty and delicious.

There is no specific order you need to layer the strawberries and cream. However, I love having strawberries at the bottom, then adding cream, then adding more strawberries, a little more cream, and then ending with one strawberry on top for a finishing touch. However you decide to do it is totally up to you!

Description

  • 1 1/2 cups of Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup of Powdered Sugar
  • 1/4 cup of Mascarpone or Creme Fraiche (up to you!)
  • 1 tsp of Rum Extract 

Instructions

  1. Pour the heavy cream into a mixer bowl and mix on medium to high speed. Stop mixing when the liquid becomes a little thick.
  2. Once the heavy cream is thickened, add the rest of the ingredients and mix until there are stiff peaks. 
  3. Place your mixture in a piping bag.
  4. Cut your strawberries to slices and begin assembling your cups or bowl. 
  5. Once assembled, serve and enjoy!
