Nutella Meringues: A Sweet, Special Snack

Let’s be honest. Meringues are AMAZING! They are sweet, perfect little bites that practically melt in your mouth. These Nutella Meringues are super easy to make and can last for up to three weeks. Talk about a win-win. These are the perfect little bites to satisfy your sweet cravings.

I love meringues because I feel like they are the perfect addition to any dessert table. You can munch on them alongside your favorite cake (like our Pecan Chocolate Chip Loaf Cake or our Dairy-Free Orange Poppyseed Cake). However, meringues are also sweet, delicious and full of amazing texture, so they are full of enough taste to stand as a dessert dish on their own. Whichever way you decide to do this, your Nutella Meringues are a definite crowdpleaser — everything will be reaching for seconds (and even thirds and fourths, too).

I think Nutella Meringues are a unique, fun twist on a classic Meringue flavor. The melt-in-your-mouth quality of meringues is made so much stronger when adding chocolate-y, smooth Nutella to the mix. This treat will definitely satisfy your guests at your next get-together. The kids and adults will be drooling over them. Plus, they look absolutely adorable, too!

Ingredients for Nutella Meringues:

This recipe only needs four (yes, you read that correctly, FOUR) ingredients. I love how simple this recipe is. Your trip to the grocery store will be super quick when you decide to make these meringues. Here is everything you need to bake these treats:

  • Egg Whites
  • White Sugar
  • Cornstarch
  • And, of course, lots of Nutella!

That’s all you need to whip up this delicious dish!

However, there is one optional ingredient: vinegar. You do not add them to the physical meringues, but you can use vinegar to wipe your mixing bowl before you start baking to get rid of any oils that may still be on the bowl. You want to avoid any oils in your meringues so they keep their proper shape.

Making Meringues, Easy and Simple:

The first step to make Nutella Meringues is separating your eggs whites from the yolk. It is important to ensure there is not one drop of egg yolk in the egg whites. The best way to do this is by cracking each egg separately into a small bowl, so that you ensure there is no yolk before you add the egg white into the mixing bowl. Once you have five egg whites separated, add your sugar to the bowl.

Next, place the mixing bowl onto a boiling pot of water. Make sure the pot is small enough, so that the mixing bowl does not touch the water. Our goal here is to let the steam of the hot water melt the sugar. Afterwards, keep mixing your mixture every few seconds until the sugar has melted. You will know it is melted when the mixture becomes much easier to mix. This process should take about four minutes.

Once the sugar has been fully melted, begin mixing your eggs on medium speed for one minute. Then, add the cornstarch and begin mixing on high for about 10 minutes. You will know your meringue is ready when you flip your mixing bowl upside down and it stays as is. After this, add the Nutella and fold it into the meringue three times. It does not need to be fully mixed. Only do this three times so you do not break the meringues. Once you place it in the piping bag, it will mix together on its own.

Finally, transfer the meringues into a piping bag with your favorite shaped tip. Begin pipping the meringues, but make sure they are spaced far enough apart. Let the meringues rest on the tray until the oven warms up to 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Leave it in the oven for 6 hours. Once they are ready, keep them in a closed container to keep them fresh.

And now, check out this video below to get some more insight into the process!
