Any chocolate lovers here? I am! There is still a great debate here on the top chocolate spread brand, but who can resist Nutella? We are loving this classic Nutella Hamentashen recipe for Purim.
Nutella Hamentashen ingredients:
I bet you already have all these ingredients in your kitchen today! This recipe calls for:
- Unsalted butter or margarine
- Sugar
- Egg
- Vanilla extract
- All purpose flour
- Salt
- Nutella
The best part about this dough recipe is that you can make it in a food processor or a mixer. The instructions below are for a kitchen mixer, but if you want to make in a food processor make sure to stop once the dough becomes a unified ball.
Instructions for Hamentashen Dough:
Begin by making the dough. In your mixer bowl add the butter and sugar and mix on high for a couple of minutes until light and creamy. Scrapes the sides as needed.
*Make sure your butter is room temperature, soft enough to poke with your finger.
Add the vanilla and egg and mix until well combined. Next, switch to your dough paddle and slowly add your flour and salt. Mix on low until the dough becomes a ball (scrape as needed).
Transfer the dough onto a bowl and place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes let the dough sit on the counter for five minutes and knead into a ball. Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness, between two sheets of parchment paper. Use a circular cookie cutter or a cup, cut the dough into circles.
Place a full teaspoon Nutella filling in the middle of the circle. Next, pinch one edge and create the other two, to create a triangle. Place on parchment paper and place in the freezer for one hour.
Preheat the oven to 350 F, bake until bottoms are browned, 25 minutes. Let cool completely and dive in!
Notes:
- If your dough is too stiff before placing it in the fridge, ass one teaspoon of butter or margarine and knead in the mixer until well incorporated.
- Roll out the dough between two parchment papers, make sure to add powdered sugar under and over the dough so it doesn’t stick. You can use flour if you don’t have powdered sugar.
