Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/4 cups of Flour
- 1 tbsp of Sugar and 2 tbsp os Sugar
- 1/4 of Salt
- 1/2 cup of Butter and 3 tbsp of Butter
- 1/4 cup of Water
- 1 Egg
- Sugar (for sprinkling)
- 3 Apples
- 2 tbsp of Date Syrup
- A little bit of lemon juice
Instructions
- Place flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl and mix with a spoon.
- Add butter and either work it in with your fingers or use a fork until the butter is pearl sized.
- Add water and start kneading the dough until it is well-combined. Do not over knead, as the dough will become sticky. Knead the dough into a ball and cover with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- Thinly slice the apples. The best way to slice apples so they are thin and uniformed is by using a Mandoline. Place the apple slices in a bowl and pour lemon juice so the apples won’t brown until you are done slicing.
- Place all the slices in a saucepan and add 3 tbsp of butter and 2 tbsp of sugar. Melt the butter and sugar on low heat and let the apples soften.
- Strain the apples and begin making the roses. Take an apple slice and roll it up, cover it with another slice and roll it up again. Make a a few with two slices and a few with three slices.
- After 30 minutes in the fridge, take out your dough and divide it in two. Roll them out to a circle.
- Spread the date syrup in the middle and create a small circle.
- Add the apple roses from the middle out.
- Fold in the edge, brush with egg and sprinkle with sugar.
- Serve and Enjoy!
Notes
As you make the roses place them in a ramekin or a small pie pan so the roses hold their shape.
